Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant support from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
