LeBron James began his professional journey with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the year 2003.
James will be absent for around four weeks and is set to miss the beginning of the league campaign due to sciatic nerve pain, Lakers have confirmed.
The player, 40, signed a new contract with the Lakers in June of this year and will become the first player to compete across 23 separate NBA seasons.
Sciatica refers to discomfort in the sciatic nerve that goes down the lower back and through the leg.
LeBron James did not participate in preseason and was out for the defeats against the Golden State and the Suns earlier this month because of the nerve issue.
The veteran will likely miss for every one of the five of the team's games in October, featuring the season-opener against Golden State Warriors.
James, the league's top scorer, has always been present for the beginning of the campaign in his 22-season tenure.
His tally of 1,562 matches participated in is just 50 short than surpassing former Celtics star Robert Parish's league record.
The four-time NBA champion played in 70 of the team's 82 games last season and played on 71 occasions in the previous year.
The previous season, James posted 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game per game and finished sixth in the Most Valuable Player vote.
The Lakers qualified for the postseason in 2024-25 but were defeated four games to one against the Timberwolves in the initial stage.
