Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
