Helen Mirren Will Be Awarded Golden Globe Lifetime Achievement Award.
The acclaimed UK star Helen Mirren, already recipient of an Oscar statuette, several BAFTA honors, Golden Globe wins, five Emmys, and a Tony, will soon earn an additional major award to her collection: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe lifetime honor.
Ceremony Details
Mirren, octogenarian, formerly honored as a dame during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will pick up this honor in a ceremony January 8, just prior to the main Golden Globes are held, within an event billed by the Globes as the “Golden Eve”.
Additionally featuring the awarding of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett award for small-screen contributions, the honoree for which remains unannounced. Previous recipients were Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.
“Helen Mirren is a powerhouse performer, and her professional journey is absolutely extraordinary,” remarked the Golden Globes president, Helen Hoehne. “Her captivating roles and dedication to acting continue to inspire countless performers and fans too. It’s a tremendous privilege to present her with the DeMille prize.”
Professional Journey
The star became well-known during the seventies via important performances in theater in London’s theater district and with the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.
During the nineties, her lead performance in detective drama Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase further. Other important films comprise Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.
She received an Oscar for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, a character she reprised in 2013 for The Audience, the stage production by Peter Morgan concerning the sessions between the queen and the PM Thatcher, a performance for which Mirren won a Tony during 2015.
Recent and Upcoming Projects
- Subsequent cinematic works include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, where she served as narrator.
- Her role in the streaming adaptation for The Thursday Murder Club has garnered acclaim and honors speculation is building about her portrayal as an ailing family head in Kate Winslet’s initial directorial project, Goodbye June.
- Upcoming, Mirren will be seen in the role of Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.
Golden Globe nods are set to be revealed on the eighth of December, including the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
