Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
