Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
