A Heap of Anime News Arrived Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season provide a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than checking the latest news: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and harnessing meditation skills to not snapping at relatives. It is wished you managed to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments surfaced over the festive period, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)
Truly the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now the community is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not yet been announced.
